Sometimes, we just want to relax but it seems that we forgot how to relax. This is why having some habits to add more relaxation in your life becomes beneficial.

It can be hard to unwind after a day of hard work.

Relaxing should be an activity where there is no multitasking. It’s an activity to unwind and that shouldn’t be complicated to do.

The habits

Meditation

Meditation is getting more and more popular every year and there can be plenty of ways to do it. For me meditating is taking deep breaths and is for contemplation or reflexion.  It’s not something that needs to take a lot of time it can be from 5 minutes to 30 minutes. If you are a beginner, there are a lot of apps for meditation, my favorite so far is Calm, I’m using the free version and there’s a variety of meditation and you can also put a timer if you want to meditation by yourself for a certain amount of time.

During my meditation, I try to take deep breaths all along, at the end of my practice it feels so good to have taken deep breaths for a few minutes since during our every day, it’s not something that we often do.

Yoga

Starting a yoga practice is an activity that can be any length of time you decide to put on it. I like to do it one of the first things in the morning, to help me stretch and wake my body and sometimes also before going to bed to help me unwind and calm my body. There are a lot of great yoga resources out there. If you are a beginner, you can take a look on Youtube where there are a lot of yoga channels and you can pick a style and a teacher that resonates more with you. If you’re more advanced or if you’re more aware of the positions you can make your own flow depending on what feels good for you.

Journaling

One of the best ways to relax is to transfer our thoughts on paper. When feeling overwhelmed or when you don’t know what the next step should be, journaling will help you get the answers you already have within you. There are plenty of types of journaling, from morning pages to gratitude journals, you just have to find a way that works for you. You can journal in the morning, in the evening or even during the day when you want to have more clarity.

Listening to music

Listening to your favorite music can be very relaxing. Personally when I want to relax I listen to instrumental music where there’s no voice, only instruments that way my brain can relax because when there are lyrics I will «listen» to them but when it’s just the instruments I’m just «hearing» which helps me relax.

Meal prepping

Preparing your meal for the week will add more relaxation in your life because you’ll know in advance what you’re going to eat, so there won’t be last-minute planning or last-minute grocery shopping because you have nothing to eat. You’ll have more time in the day because you won’t have to prepare from A to Z every single meal since they’ll already be made.

Daily walk

Spending some time outside can be very beneficial. The habit of taking a daily walk whether it’s for 15 or 40 minutes will be good enough. By getting outdoors, you’ll be able to breathe the fresh air and use your body, use your feet. When you’ll get back home, you’ll feel relaxed and energized both at the same time.

Distance yourself from your phone

Scheduling some time in the day where you don’t go on your phone, don’t go on social media, where you’re not surrounded with «outside noise» is without a doubt very relaxing. You can schedule this time two hours before going to sleep or in the mornings after waking up. This habit is also helpful to stop the addiction and the reflex to always be on our phones when we have nothing else to do or feel bored.

Self-care

Practicing and prioritizing self-care is something that really upgraded my life in the past. I put 1 hour a day in my calendar to make sure that I prioritize it. Every day it can be different, moisturize my body, read a book, etc. It can be anything.

Expressing your creativity

Having a way to express your creativity is a great way to relax because when you enter into creativity mode your brain enters into a more relaxed phase. It can be anything, whether it will be photography, drawing, painting or writing, the choice is yours!
